Mission Statement

Having been called by God to proclaim his infallible word, we the pastor and members of Pilgrim Baptist Church are committed to sharing the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world.

We believe all men are sinners by nature Jesus Christ is the only one who has the power to set them free.  We believe that when individuals accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior, they will have a positive impact in their homes,  schools, neighborhoods, churches, government and the society at large.

Our goal at Pilgrim is to help every person to reach his or her highest potential in Christ.  God has a purpose for every life.  We believe that purpose can be discovered and fulfilled.

Further, we believe that love is the primary ingredient that will cause us to bring glory and honor to God in the earth.  Jesus said, "by this shall all men know you are my disciples, that you have love one for another."   We feel one of our main responsibilities is to attempt to lead our fellow brothers and sisters into a life of spiritual maturity.  A mature Christian is a loving Christian.  We believe along with our savior that loving God and loving our fellow man are the two greatest commandments.  We desire to see a thriving Christian community here in this present world.  Pilgrim's mission is to be an ambassador for Christ both in word and deed.

This is our commitment.  We will not stop until the whole world is filled with the knowledge of the glory of God.

dennis-davis.x300Pastor Dennis G. Davis was led by the Lord to move south from Stratford Ct. after pasturing Victory Deliverance Center in Bridgeport Connecticut for three years.  In 1984 he came to Pilgrim Baptist Church and began assisting the late Rev. Willie Thornton.  Rev. Thornton became ill and in September 1992 he went home to be with the Lord.  Rev Davis was installed as pastor in December 1992.

Armed only with a burning vision to spread the gospel and a desire to preach the truth of the word of God in its fullness, pastor Davis began the task of building the ministry.  The church began to grow under his preaching and teaching.  As he placed more emphasis on being born again and filled with the Holy Spirit, the members began to grow in their spiritual lives.  Many people came to realize their need for Jesus Christ.  Some came from the streets and others went from being church goers to born again believers.

The church became incorporated as  God continued to bless spiritually, physically, and financially.  In 2005 Pilgrim members walked into their beautiful new 500 seat building.  Pastor Davis and his wife Sylvia, the love of his life, continue to strive to lead people into a fuller relationship with Jesus Christ.  Many ministries have sprang forth over the years including, two praise teams, fundamentals class, (a new believers class), praise dance ministry, children’s church and the hospitality committee.  When you walk through the doors of Pilgrim, you will surely be met with a warm greeting and a smile.
